Traditionally at Whispering Meadows, we have produced grain-finished beef, because it gives the most tender and sweetest meat. In recent years, we’ve gotten more and more requests for grass-fed beef, and we now give you the choice of both.
So what’s the difference?
Grassfed beef is raised only on our natural pasture grasses, and nothing else — some people call it grass finished beef. It is considered to have the very best nutritional profile, with higher levels of conjugated linoleic acid and omega-3 fatty acids. It is slightly leaner and less marbled that grain-finished beef, so needs a bit more care to cook to perfection, yet has a more complex flavour profile.
Our grain-finished beef is also raised on grass for its entire life, plus it’s supplemented with non-GMO grains, which gives an overall sweeter and slightly more tender meat. If you aren’t sure which one to choose, this is the beef that we usually recommend that you try first.
